Sancha De Burca Scoops Higher Education Teacher of the Year Accolade at Kent Teacher of the Year Awards

We’re very proud to announce that Sancha De Burca, Lecturer in Art and Design at University Centre West Kent, was awarded the Higher Education Teacher of the Year Award at the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards on 10th May.

Sancha was presented with the award at the prestigious awards dinner run by educational charity the KM Charity Team and staged at the Ashford International Hotel.

50 awards were presented to individuals and teams representing the cream of the crop at primary schools, secondary schools and colleges for each local authority area.  22 winners were crowned best in the whole of Kent.

Guest speakers included the charity’s honorary patron and star of CBeebies’ Mister Maker, Phil Gallagher, as well as double Olympic champion Jack Green, and Steven Holdcroft, head of recruitment and admissions for the event’s key partner the University of Kent.

Winners were chosen by a panel of organisations who also presented the awards on the night.

These included representatives from the University of Greenwich, Kreston Reeves, Social Enterprise Kent, Medway Youth Trust, Canterbury Christ Church University, Loop CR, Diggerland, Kent Further Education, Kape HR, KCS, Towergate Insurance, The Education People, Kent Sport, Kent County Council, Medway Council, Salus, Blessing by Blé, and Three R’s Teacher Recruitment.

Sancha is an advocate for the HND and BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme’s ‘Design for Good’ drive, which seeks to explore the role of design in influencing successful socially-conscious initiatives. She is also the organiser of the Design Volunteers project, which sees students from the second year of the University of Kent’s HND in Graphic Design paired off with local organisations to undertake all kinds of graphics work, from logos and rebranding to posters, leaflets, brochures and websites.
