Combine practical experience with theory to prepare for a career in early years.

You will develop communication and professional skills needed to work in the early years sector.

Themes covered will include:

• Introduction to the role of the early years practitioner
• Legislation framework and professional practice
• Play development and learning for school
• Professional development

As well as classroom-based learning, there is a work placement for two days a week and a two week block in an early years setting. You will be assessed by written assignment, professional discussions and work-based assessment.

On successful achievement of the Level 2 Diploma you could Progress to a Level 3 course provided you have also achieved Grade 4/C in both English and Maths GCSEs, an apprenticeship or into an entry level role in the industry such as nursery practitioner, classroom assistant or pre-school practitioner.

You will need four GCSEs at Grades D/3 or above, including English and maths or a Level 1 qualification at Merit or Distinction and English and maths functional skills at Level 2.

You will be interviewed and a place on the course is subject to a DBS check and a positive reference. At interview, you will need to demonstrate that you are a suitable candidate to work with children.
