This course gives you additional skills to develop your career in professional catering, e.g. hotels, restaurants and pubs.

Subjects studied include:

• Investigate the catering and hospitality industry
• Legislation
• Menu design
• Food health and safety awareness
• Enhanced food and drink service skills
• Principles of customer service

Functional skills in English and maths are a key part of this course. You will be assessed by observation of competence, assignments and presentations. Please note that you will be required to purchase equipment and clothing from an external supplier for this course. All course costs will be discussed at interview.

After you have successfully completed this course you can progress onto a Level 3 in Hospitality Supervision or an Advanced Apprenticeship.


You will need four GCSEs at Grades D-G/3 1, including a Grade C/4 in either English or Mathematics, or successful completion of the college’s Level 1 Catering and Hospitality course.

You will need to attend a course suitability day as part of the interview process. We will also consider you if you have at least three years’ relevant industry experience.
