This course is aimed at those wanting to extend their practical, hands-on making skills and widen their knowledge of art and design disciplines.
In year 1 you will work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design, if you achieve this you can progress onto year two and work towards the Extended Diploma.
You will complete a variety of projects, which will develop your practical skills in drawing, illustration, mixed media, painting, sculptural techniques, 3D design, print making and model making. You will also be required to complete a contextual studies assignment.
All projects emphasise the importance of research and the creative development of coursework, learning along the way about various influences and cultural references to allow for a more personal response. There are research trips each term to galleries and museums to support your studies.
Throughout the course you will develop your portfolio of work to aid your progression on to another programme of study or into employment.
The final project for each year will be self-initiated and is internally marked and externally moderated by the awarding body. At the end of each year this work will be exhibited in the College End of Year Exhibition.
Progression to higher education or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Employment opportunities on completion of this course may include specialised apprenticeships, or entry level commercial art, craft and design-related jobs.
