This course is aimed at those wanting to learn creative and technical photographic skills with highly professional equipment; utilising our large studios, darkroom and digital imaging software.
In year 1 you will work towards the Level 3 Diploma in Art and Design (Photography), if you achieve this you can progress onto year two and work towards the Extended Diploma.
Through focused practical project briefs you will develop a vocational understanding as well as the creative and technical skills to ensure that your vision is captured with skill and imagination. This course will enable you to produce a professional portfolio of photographs, preparing you for a broad range of commercial and art based careers.
You will learn a broad range of analogue and digital photographic and camera skills that utilise traditional film / darkroom and digital workflow techniques and processes, through location and studio based assignments encompassing a range of photographic genres. You will also be required to complete a contextual studies assignment. We place a strong emphasis on employability skills, such as presenting ideas, portfolio development and negotiating effectively with potential clients.
All projects emphasise the importance of research and the creative development of coursework, learning along the way about various influences and cultural references to allow for a more personal response. There are research trips each term to galleries and museums to support your studies.
You may also have opportunities to work on directed projects with live briefs and clients, and to exhibit your work externally.
The final project for each year will be self-initiated and is internally marked and externally moderated by the awarding body. At the end of each year this work will be exhibited in the College End of Year Show.
Progression to higher education or a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design. Employment opportunities on completion of this course may include specialised apprenticeships, or entry level commercial art, craft and design-related jobs.
