As one of the most popular subjects to study at A-Level, English Literature is valued by employers, universities and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as a traditional subject with high credibility to help students develop their critical thinking, presentation, logic and research skills.

As part of the course you will study a range of texts, including Frankenstein (Mary Shelley); The Handmaid’s Tale (Margaret Atwood); Poems of the Decade: An Anthology; Othello (Shakespeare) and A Streetcar Named Desire (Tennessee Williams).

The A-Level qualification has a coursework component worth 20%, this a comparative piece where you will explore the connections and comparative differences between two texts. The rest of the qualification will be assessed across three exams at the end of the two year programme: component one Drama, component two Prose, and component three Poetry.

Upon completing this course you will be equipped to move on to university, a higher apprenticeship or work. English literature is an ideal first step in the study of arts and humanities subjects, or English language and literature.
