This course is ideal entry route to a university programme in an art and design subject.
This intensive one-year course prepares you for study at higher education in a very broad range of art and design specialisms. During the initial stage of the course you will explore the following:
• Fine art, painting, drawing (including life classes) and printmaking
• Fashion and textiles
• 3D Design and sculpture
• Graphic design, illustration and visual communication
• Animation, moving image and photography
• Contextual studies
All projects emphasise the importance of research and the creative development of coursework, learning along the way about various influences and cultural references to allow for a more personal response. There are research trips each term to galleries and museums to support your studies.
The course is designed to allow you to specialise your art or design practice as it progresses from the exploratory stage to the pathway stage, where you develop your portfolio in pathway groups, supported by expert tutors in our specialist art and design studios.
The last stage of the course requires you to complete a final major project, which is self-initiated and is internally marked and externally moderated by the awarding body. At the end of each year this work will be showcased in the College End of Year Exhibition.
This is an opportunity to explore and learn about many aspects of art and design in order to make an informed decision about university and career options. This course is long-established and has an excellent reputation with degree institutions.
